Apply for a police certificate online - how it works
If you have a new job and your employer wants to see a police clearance certificate, you can apply for it online. Where this works and what you need for it, we explain in this article.
Applying for a certificate of good conduct online - that's what you need
- The new electronic identity card or an electronic residence permit.
- An ID card reader that you need to connect to your computer.
- A credit card or access to your bank's online banking (this must support "giropay").
How to apply for the police clearance certificate
- To apply for your police clearance certificate, you have to go to the online portal of the Federal Office of Justice.
- There you click on the link "Certificate of good conduct and information from the central register of trade" and select "Apply for certificate of good conduct" in the left tab.
- In the next step, you have to specify whether you are applying for the certificate of good conduct on your own or in legal representation. Then enter your personal data.
- Now connect the card reader and insert your electronic ID. The ID is recorded using the "Read out personal data" button.
- Finally, you have to pay the fee of 13 euros (by credit card or Giropay). This amount also applies if you apply for the certificate of good conduct on site. You will receive an overview of all the details again before you send the application to the authority.
- Several weeks can pass before the certificate of good conduct is issued. You can specify whether the letter should be sent directly to your employer or to you personally first.
If your employer still needs your social security number, you can also apply for it online.
