Cooking french fries: what you should know about them
Although fries are much better for the oven or deep fryer, we will show you some tips that you can use to prepare the potatoes in the microwave.
Cooking fries in the microwave - tips
Preparation is not impossible, but depending on the microwave, it is not recommended.
- First check the settings of your microwave. Different models also have a convection / oven setting.
- If you find such an option, it is best to place the fries on a small grid and prepare them according to the package instructions.
- Without such a setting, the fries will be warm and edible, but not crispy.
- You can also prepare homemade fries in this way, but they will not be crispy either. The advantage here, however, is that you don't have to add any fats in the microwave.
Tip: mixture of microwave and pan
If you don't have an oven or deep fryer, but still want to enjoy crispy fries, you can also do this with a microwave and pan.
- Use the microwave to defrost and cook the fries.
- The exact times depend on your microwave wave. However, the fries should be warm, if a little firm inside, so that they don't break in the pan.
- Now heat the pan to the maximum setting and add highly heatable oils (sunflower / rapeseed oil) or frying fats (Palmin / Biskin).
- Since the fries are already pre-cooked, you only need a little oil here. The bottom of the pan should be slightly wetted.
- Important: Before you put the chips out of the microwave in the pan, dab them with paper towels so that water does not get into the hot fat.
- As soon as the fries have color on all sides, they are ready because they have already been pre-cooked in the micro.
