Powerpoint: hyperlinks without underscore
If you want to insert hyperlinks in PowerPoint without the text being underlined afterwards, you have to do a little trick. In this guide, we will show you how this works.
Hyperlinks in PowerPoint: Avoid the underscore with a rectangle
To avoid underscoring a word, cover it with a transparent rectangle or other object. In our picture gallery you can follow the steps again using an example.
- Go to the slide that contains the word or phrase you want to link.
- In the "Start" tab you will find several shapes under the "Drawing" section.
- Select the rectangle there and click to draw a rectangle over the word you have selected.
- Click on your rectangle and select the "Fill effect" option under "Drawing".
- Click on "More fill colors ..." and slide the "Transparency" slider to 100%. Confirm with OK".
- Proceed in the same way for the "Shape contour" subitem, which is under "Fill effect".
- The fill color and the frame are now transparent. It is important that you do not select "No fill" or "No frame", because then your rectangle will disappear again.
Provide a rectangle with a hyperlink
If you now click on the word, your transparent rectangle is selected, this is now provided with a hyperlink.
- Select your rectangle.
- Right-click to select the "Hyperlink" sub-item.
- Now add the link or the file you want to link and confirm with "OK".
- If you click on the word in the slide show, the rectangle with the hyperlink is activated and forwards you.
