PowerPoint not saved - how to restore?
If you have not saved your PowerPoint or the program has crashed, you can usually restore the file. We'll show you what options you have.
Restore unsaved PowerPoint
These instructions work with the newer versions of Office such as 2013 and 2010. If this does not help you, read on in the next paragraph.
- Click the File tab in the upper left corner of PowerPoint and select the Information tab on the left.
- Click the "Manage versions" button below and select the "Restore unsaved presentation" option.
- Now the path with the backup copies opens. If you find several files here, pay attention to the date when choosing.
Manually restore PowerPoint files
Press the [Windows] and [E] keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens. Now enter the paths below. You must replace the entry "XXX" with your user name. Pay attention to the time here too. If the date and time match the presentation, you have found the file. The file extension usually has to be changed to ".ppt".
- C: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ Office \ UnsavedFiles
- C: \ Users \ XXX \ AppData \ Local \ Temp
- C: \ Windows \ Temp
