Create a PowerPoint presentation with YouTube videos
In PowerPoint you can embed YouTube videos directly without having them on your PC. We'll show you how it's done.
Embed YouTube video as a Flash object in PowerPoint
You can include a YouTube video as a Flash object in your PP presentation. Please note that you must have an internet connection.
- Call up the desired YouTube video in the browser that you want to integrate.
- Now edit the URL of the video. It always has the same shape and looks like this: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t4_JapFins - Remove the "watch?" and replace the "=" with a "/". The new URL for the example looks like this: //www.youtube.com/v/7t4_JapFins
- Then switch to PowerPoint and go to the "Developer" tab above. If you don't see this tab, go to "File" and "Options". Now click on the "Customize ribbon" item on the left and select "Main tabs" under "Select commands". Click on "Developer Tools" and then on the "Add" button (see picture gallery).
- In the "Controls" area, click the "More Controls" button.
- Select "Shockwave Flash Object" from the list.
- Now draw the area on the desired slide that will later correspond to the size of the video.
- Right click on the box and go to "Properties".
- Now you can enter the link to the video. Enter the edited URL under "Movie". You can also make other options, such as whether the video should be started directly ("Playing").
These instructions were carried out on a PC with PowerPoint 2010. From version 2010 you can actually insert the video using the "Video from website" button, but this has not worked since a YouTube changeover. This practical tip shows you how you can generally insert videos into your presentation.
