If Powerpoint does not start, it is best to go through the following points to find out the cause and correct the problem.
- Office update: Download the latest versions of Office. These are automatically included in the latest Windows updates. We'll tell you how to install the updates in Windows 7 and Windows 8 in further articles.
- Permissions: The problem is often the lack of rights. Therefore, run PowerPoint under Windows 7 and Windows 8 as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the program shortcut and select "Run as administrator".
- Compatibility: There may also be a compatibility problem. Right-click on the Powerpoint icon and select the "Troubleshoot Compatibility Problems" menu item and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Safe mode: If none of this helps, you should start PowerPoint in safe mode. Then deactivate all extensions under "File"> "Options"> "Add-Ins". If Powerpoint does not start in normal mode afterwards, deactivate the "COM add-ins" in the same way.
