It is not difficult to create templates in PowerPoint if you have familiarized yourself a little with the Office program. PowerPoint also provides you with numerous templates that you can modify according to your ideas.
Create PowerPoint templates: preliminary considerations
Before you start designing, make some basic decisions. You should already have a rough idea of what your PowerPoint presentation should look like later:
- Is your presentation in portrait or landscape format more effective?
- Which background is the most effective? Should the background be identical for all slides or is it more effective to change the background occasionally?
- Would you like to create your own template from the start or can you save yourself some work by using Microsoft design templates?
- Which modules do you need? In addition to your texts and lists, you can also spice up the slides with sketches, images, sound and videos.
- In another article we have put together additional tips for PowerPoint presentations that will delight your audience.
First steps
You can create presentation templates with PowerPoint 2016 or PowerPoint 365 in just a few clicks:
- First create an empty presentation under "File" and then "New". Alternatively, choose a suitable existing template. Then switch to the "View" tab.
- Go to the "Master Views" group in the quick start bar. There, click on the "Foil Master" icon. Then you can start designing your base film, the so-called film master.
- On the left side of your screen you will see an overview of all film types in the presentation template. Microsoft has already put together some slide templates. You can adjust these if necessary.
- If you do not need certain layouts, right-click on them to delete them. You can also duplicate them, reset them to their original state or edit them.
- You can find the right tools for your templates by selecting the appropriate tab above. In the quick start bar, you can select suitable elements or effects, such as an elegant transition or a cool animation.
- When you have finished your PowerPoint template, save the slides for the other templates under C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft Office \ Templates \. Select ".potx" as the data type.
Create background
You should pay particular attention to the background of your PowerPoint template. The slide background largely determines how your presentation affects the audience.
- To set the background, fonts, slide size, etc. for your templates, go to the "Slide Master" tab in the slide master view. The appropriate tools can be found in the subgroups "Background" and "Edit design".
- If the effort is too great for you, you do not have to put together colors and color effects yourself. You have the possibility to access finished designs, effects and color palettes at any time. You can adapt these to your needs and your taste.
- You can also define the layout for the slide master yourself step by step. You can insert pictures or symbols as usual. These are then displayed on all slides in the template.
- Try different layouts. In the ribbon you will find a wide variety of tools to optimize the PowerPoint slides for your presentation. For example, the background image can be faded in slowly.
The placeholders on the PowerPoint slides
Placeholders on a layout slide determine which elements are intended at a certain point in the presentation. PowerPoint distinguishes placeholders for body text, listings, images, sound and films.
- You will find placeholders on the individual layout slides, which will later make it easier for you and your colleagues to use the template. You can remove placeholders that are not required. To do this, click on the edge of the unwanted placeholder and delete it.
- To insert a placeholder, first click on the slide. The "Master layout" area appears in the ribbon of the "Foil master" tab. There you select "Insert placeholder". In the dropdown list you decide on the right format.
- If you want to move a placeholder or change its shape, first click on the edge. Then place it in the appropriate place on the slide and draw the outline in position.
With the right template, your presentation is guaranteed to be a success. With a few simple tricks you can impress and captivate your audience. Underlay some slides of your PowerPoint presentations with music, for example.
