As an alternative to the contract, prepaid cards are particularly popular with occasional users or for children. In this article you can read when the credit expires and how you can get your money back after deactivating the card.
Prepaid credit: when does it expire?
If you do not use your prepaid card for a longer period of time, it will be deactivated by the provider. This not only serves to update the number of users, but also for data protection.
- Depending on the provider, the card is deactivated after six months to two years of inactivity.
- Inactivity means that you cannot top up credit, make calls or write text messages.
- You will receive a notification by SMS or post at least one month before deactivation.

Prepaid card deactivated: Get money back - how it works
If your provider has deactivated your prepaid card, you have three years to reclaim your credit:
- Contact your provider for reimbursement. As a rule, the providers provide appropriate forms on their website.
- If you cannot find such a form, contact your provider by phone or send your request by post, stating your address, your mobile phone number and your account details.
