Remove PrivDog - How to get rid of the adware
If you find the "PrivDog" adware on your computer or in your browser, you should remove the tool immediately. We show you how and why.
PrivDog: Why should I remove the adware?
PrivDog is actually adware that is completely harmless to your computer. The tool promises to make surfing the web safer.
- At the end of February 2015, however, there was a security problem. The adware exchanged certificates under Windows and also used its own certificates to place advertisements in the browser.
- As a result, your browser no longer issues security warnings when you open a dangerous website.
- Even if PrivDog solved the problem with an update, you should still uninstall the adware. Especially if the tool was installed without your knowledge.
Step 1: Uninstall PrivDog on Windows
- Open the Control Panel and select the "Uninstall a program" item under the "Programs" category.
- Look for "PrivDog" in the list of installed programs. If necessary, sort the list by alphabet.
- Mark the entry with the mouse and then click on the "Uninstall" button at the top.
- If you now follow the further steps of the deinstallation, the program will then be removed from Windows.
Step 2: remove PrivDog from browser and system
- The free "AdwCleaner" does the rest for you. Download and start the tool. Installation is not necessary. Carry out the short check and remove all finds. PrivDog has completely disappeared after a restart.
- If you have caught a virus unnoticed by PrivDog's security error, you should use an independent virus scanner. The free program "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" reliably detects and removes all malware.
