Outlook login problems
If you have problems logging in to Outlook, this can have several causes. In this practical tip, we have put together all the causes and the appropriate solutions so that you can access your Outlook account again.
Outlook: problems with the registration
If you have problems logging in to Outlook, first make sure that the login data you provided is correct. If your personal login information is correct, there may be other reasons why you cannot log in. Go through the following causes one by one to identify and solve your problem.
- Make sure you turned off Caps Lock when you entered your password. Passwords are case sensitive, so you may be subconsciously entering the wrong password.
- Another cause can be a currently existing server problem. During a server problem, neither you nor other users can access your Outlook account. Here you can only wait until the server problem has been solved by Microsoft. You can tell whether such a problem exists by the service status of Outlook.
- However, if the service status is "Running properly", someone else may be accessing your account and changing your password. You can find out whether your account has been hacked and how to secure your account on the corresponding Microsoft support page.
- Your account may also be closed due to inactivity or questionable activity and is therefore no longer recoverable. To ensure that your account is not blocked, you must log into your account at least once every two years and adhere to the Outlook guidelines.
Access the Outlook account again - how it works
If you suspect or even know that you are a victim of a hacker attack, you should definitely reset your Outlook password.
- You can change your password at any time using a Microsoft subpage. To protect against hackers, it makes sense to enter a password with at least twelve characters, consisting of letters, numbers and special characters.
- At the same time, you should change your password at regular intervals and make sure that the new password differs significantly from the previous passwords. In a final step, use Microsoft's "Password Checker" to check how secure your password is.
- If you have successfully changed your password and are able to access your Outlook account again, it is advisable to add as much security information as possible to your account in order to better protect your account. If you forget your password or someone has hacked your account, you can use the information to take over your account again.
In Outlook, you can also add SSL encryption to your received and sent e-mails, thus protecting personal information. With SSL encryption, you prevent strangers from reading your e-mails and at the same time make it harder for hackers to access your private messages. For this reason, we explain in another practical tip how to activate SSL encryption in Outlook.
