Resolution: Shockwave Flash may be corrupt
Flash videos are not running in the browser and the message "Shockwave Flash may be corrupt or may stop responding" appears. We'll show you how to fix it.
Step 1: Update Firefox to fix corrupt Shockwave Flash
With the Shockwave Flash plugin, different content such as videos or games is displayed on many websites. Sometimes the plugin may not work properly and display the error message "Shockwave Flash may be busy or not responding". The Flash content is then not displayed: Most of the time, the browser only responds sluggishly or not at all. Firefox in particular is affected by the problem. Therefore, first make sure that you are using the current version of the browser:
- Click on the menu button in the toolbar and then on the question mark. Then select "About Firefox".
- If a new browser version is available, it will now be downloaded automatically. Wait for the download. Then click on the button "Restart to complete the update".
Step 2: update Shockwave plugin
Next, make sure the Shockwave plug-in is up to date:
- Click the menu button in the Firefox toolbar and then click "Add-ons".
- In the "Plugins" area, make sure that "Shockwave Flash" is activated. If this is not the case, set the entry to "Always activate".
- Click on the link "Check whether your plugins are up to date" above the installed plugins.
- A new browser window opens in which the status of the installed plugins is displayed. If the Adobe Flash Player is not up to date, you should definitely download and install the latest version. If you need help with this, read on in this practical tip.
Shockwave Flash can of course not only cause problems in Firefox and Safari, but also in Google Chrome. What you can do when you crash in Chrome can be found in another practical tip.
