Test processor for errors - how it works
In this practical tip, we will show you how you can test your processor or CPU for errors.
Test the processor for errors with the "CPU Stability Test"
Unfortunately, you cannot reliably test a processor for errors. However, a defective CPU in most cases means that the PC does not start up anyway. However, you can put your system - and thus your processor - to a stress test and determine whether all components work reliably even under load:
- To do this, download the free "CPU Stability Test". Unzip the archive into any directory on your computer and then start the tool.
- In the "Control Panel" area, click the start button to run the test.
- Let the test run for several hours - the longer the better. Then click on the stop button. The test does not end on its own.
- During the test run, the tool shows you all errors in the "Console" area. If there are no problems, your processor will most likely be working properly. Displayed errors do not necessarily have to be due to a defective CPU: For example, insufficient cooling could cause problems for other components such as the mainboard, the RAM or the hard disk.
Another indication of processor errors is the heat development: Read how to display the CPU temperature in the BIOS.
