Processor: How high can the CPU temperature be?
In order for the processor to do its job as long as possible, the CPU temperature should not be too high. We'll tell you how high the temperature can be and what signs there are for degrees that are too high.
CPU temperature: how high should it be?
Depending on the model, the maximum temperature of processors is between 55 and 100 degrees Celsius. More expensive processors do not necessarily withstand higher temperatures.
- A general statement can unfortunately not be made here. Each processor works under different conditions. The manufacturers themselves only provide vague information and issue complicated formulas for the calculation.
- As a rule, the normal CPU temperature in idle is around 30 to 50 degrees Celsius. Depending on the mainboard settings, cooling and overclocking, however, completely different measured values can occur here. Software like Core Temp measures temperature, but accuracy is by no means guaranteed.
- The CPU temperature is too high if you notice changes in the graphics. If the processor gets too hot, the performance is automatically reduced. The throttling is not successful in very few cases, so that the CPU does not cool down and switches itself off for security reasons.
- Conclusion: As long as you haven't overclocked or otherwise modified your processor, you don't have to worry much about the temperature. If the CPU gets too hot under load, so that the performance is reduced, you should take a closer look at the cooling.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to test your processor for errors.
