Disabling the PS4's HDCP protection enables you to use external devices to record the console's HDMI signal. We'll show you how to turn off protection.
Disable PS4 HDCP protection
To use external recording devices for the PlayStation 4, you have to deactivate the HDCP protection of the console. This has been possible since firmware update 1.70. Before following the steps below, make sure your console is on the appropriate firmware or higher.
- Start the settings of the PS4 by navigating to the right in the top option bar.
- Now open the System category and go to the "Activate HDCP" option.
- To be able to deactivate HDCP, all active applications must be closed. Finally, remove the checkmark from the option to switch off HDCP and allow recording via external devices.
If you cannot establish an Internet connection with your PlayStation 4 in order to install the necessary update to deactivate HDCP, we will show you how to install an update from a USB stick.
