PS3: 3 popular headsets compared
Headsets not only promise better sound than TV speakers, thanks to the built-in microphone you can also talk to friends or teammates in co-op and multiplayer mode. If you prefer to play on Playstation 3, you have to be careful when buying - some models only work with the PC or on the newer PS4. We show you three popular headsets in different price ranges, with which you as a PS3 gambler can not go wrong.
PS3 headset 1: Gioteck EX-01
The Gioteck EX-01 may be enough for beginners and casual gamers. The mini headset is only slipped over one ear and is therefore significantly more discreet than common headset variants. For the small size and the equally small price, however, you have to reduce the expectations of the audio quality.
- The Gioteck EX-01 costs a good 10 euros - you can hardly get a usable device cheaper. You don't have to fear complete junk if you choose the Gioteck headset - the equipment and the build quality are decent.
- The Gioteck EX-01 cannot offer great audio enjoyment. According to Amazon reviews, the loudspeaker inserted through the right ear is at least sufficient to clearly and clearly understand the interlocutors without neglecting the game. The microphone also serves its purpose.
- Connect the EX-01 to the Playstation 3 via Bluetooth, a USB cable is included for charging. This allows you to move freely around the room while wearing it. Due to the battery life of several hours, the headset is also suitable for longer sessions.
PS3 headset 2: Turtle Beach Ear Force PX22
Those who find out about headsets for the Playstation 3 will sooner or later stumble across the Ear Force PX22 from Turtle Beach. The all-rounder offers everything you could want: good comfort, its own volume control and, of course, strong sound.
- The price segment between 50 and 70 euros is highly competitive, but the Ear Force PX22 is hard to beat there. For 60 euros you get an all-round carefree package without major weaknesses.
- Turtle Beach opted for a very bass-heavy tone for the Ear Force PX22, which is carried over the 50 mm speakers. Action games and shooters benefit from this. Thanks to the included sound control, you can adjust the bass as well as the treble to your own ideas. The memory foam ear pads, which also improve comfort, are intended to protect against disturbing external noises. Just like the sound quality, the microphone is rock solid.
- Playstation 3 and Turtle Beach Ear Force PX22 are connected via USB cable, the range is about 6 meters. Compared to Bluetooth headsets, you are somewhat limited, so you don't have to deal with battery runtimes.
PS3 headset 3: Sony Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0
The Sony Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 comes directly from the source. The Playstation developer from Japan supplies a headset for your own game console that is as comfortable as it is high-quality and does not have to hide from the competition from audio companies.
- The Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 is available from 80 euros. For this you get reasonable quality in terms of materials and sound.
- Sony uses 40mm speakers for the Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0, which produce balanced sound. The bass is good, but somewhat reduced compared to other gaming headsets. That doesn't have to be a bad thing - the Sony headset trumps with a very clear tone that is otherwise only known from significantly more expensive headphones. The virtual 7.1 surround sound is particularly convincing, but it only works on Playstation devices. So if you gamble on the PS3, you can enjoy the full listening experience. The microphone is integrated into the ear cup and is not visible, but works perfectly.
- The Sony Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 is wireless, but does not offer Bluetooth support. Instead, a USB adapter is inserted into the Playstation 3, which then communicates with the headset. So if you want to connect the headphones to the cell phone, you have to use the supplied audio cable. The battery life is extremely generous. The Sony headset lasts over 8 hours before it has to be plugged in.
