Open PS3 - you should pay attention to that
To change the hard drive or make repairs inside your PS3, you need to open the console. In this practical tip, we tell you what you should pay particular attention to.
Open PS3: guarantee and warranty
- If you open your PS3 at home, you will lose all warranty claims against Sony. As soon as you remove the sticker on the screw head, your claim becomes clear.
- Therefore, first find out whether you still have a guarantee on your console. The standard warranty period from Sony is one year. If you have taken out a warranty extension from a retailer, you should check with the retailer whether the warranty will expire if you open it yourself.
- Irrespective of this, your warranty rights vis-à-vis the seller are disregarded. However, this requires that you do not damage the console when opening and assembling.
Open PS3: how to do it
- To open it, place the console on a cotton cloth so as not to scratch the housing. Then remove the six screws on the bottom of the console using a special TORX screwdriver.
- Keep the unscrewed screws carefully.
- To disassemble the plastic housing, you must carefully pry it open with a lever pin. Be particularly careful here so that you do not damage the housing.
- As soon as you have opened the housing and want to remove the drive and hard drive, you need to pay attention to various flex cables. You must first remove this from the circuit board before you can remove a component.
