PS3: Update firmware - how it works
You should update the firmware regularly so that your PS3 is always up to date. If an update is available, read the update instructions here.
Update the firmware of the PS3
- First, download the latest firmware for your PS3. You can find these in our CHIP download area.
- Now insert a USB stick into your computer and delete all data that is still on it.
- Create a folder on the stick with the name "PS3" and another folder called "UPDATE".
- Now insert the downloaded firmware file into the "UPDATE" folder.
- Remove the USB stick from the computer and insert it into the PlayStation.
- From the PS3 Home menu, select the "System Update" category and then the "Update from disk" option.
- If you now select the USB stick, the firmware will be installed automatically.
Tip: You should regularly save your PS3 saves on a USB stick. This way, you can continue playing quickly if you have problems and do not have to start all over again.
