Set up PS3 parental controls correctly - how it works
Like all current consoles, the Sony PS3 has a youth protection function. In this practical tip, we explain how to set it up correctly and what exactly it brings.
Step by step to the correct protection of minors on Playstation 3
- After starting the console you are in the menu of the Playstation 3. There you have to go with the left analog stick of the controller all the way to the point "Settings".
- Press down with the left analog stick until you have reached the "Security Settings" item. There press the X button to open further submenus.
- First change the password for the security settings, otherwise your child can quickly change the settings again. The corresponding point can be found at the top of the submenu.
- For a Playstation 3 in the factory state, the default password is four times the 0. You should remember the new password well, otherwise you will have to reset the console to the factory state. (Settings -> System Settings -> Restore Default Settings)
- Below is the "Parental Control" item in the "Security Settings". The child lock is divided into 11 levels, which unfortunately have nothing in common with the classification by the USK. The table in the picture shows which level you have to choose for which USK classification.
- All games that are not within the permitted age limits are now marked with a lock when inserted and can only be started by entering the specified code.
You can also set parental controls for Blu-Rays and DVDs in the sub-settings. However, this is ineffective because there are no age limits encoded in European Blu-Rays and DVDs. In addition, access to the Internet can be secured with a password using the integrated web browser.
