PS3: no sound - what to do?
If the TV shows an image but no sound from the connected PS3, you can try different solutions. We'll show you how to reactivate the sound on your PS3.
PS3: The right sound settings
First, you should check the sound settings of your PS3 and TV:
- First, make sure that the sound on the TV is activated and working. To do this, test whether sound is played on a device other than the PS3. If not, read us how to fix sound problems on your TV.
- If the problem also exists with other devices that you connect to the TV via HDMI, you can also fix these HDMI sound problems on the TV.
- Next, check that the sound settings on the PS3 are correct: Call up the settings, select "Sound settings" and set the sound output to "HDMI".
PlayStation 3 soft reset
With a soft rest, you can redefine the picture and sound settings of the PS3.
- When you turn on the PS3, press and hold the On button for about 10 seconds until you hear a beep.
- A window appears in which you can redefine the sound settings.
No sound with the PS3: restart the TV and console
- A simple restart of the TV and console often helps.
- Shut down the playstation via the menu and then switch it off completely using the switch on the back.
- With most televisions you have to switch off the device using the button on the screen so that the device switches off completely. Disconnect the power adapter from the television so that the power supply is completely cut off.
- Now disconnect the HDMI cable from the TV and console and wait a few minutes.
- Now turn on the TV first.
- Then plug the HDMI cable back in and turn on the PS3.
- Use the AV button on the TV to select HDMI as the source and test the sound again.
