Connect PS3 to PC under Windows 7
You can easily connect your PS3 to your Windows 7 PC. This allows you to use the computer as a media server and stream pictures, videos or music via the game console. In Windows 7, you only have to make a few small settings.
Connect PS3 to PC via LAN
- For a LAN connection, make sure that the PS3 and PC are connected to the router via an Ethernet cable. Most routers support DHCP, which automatically integrates new devices into an existing network and assigns them an IP.
- It is therefore sufficient to connect the game console to the router with a LAN cable in order to connect the PS3 and PC in the network.
Connect PS3 to PC via WLAN
Many PS3 models can also connect to your router via WLAN. In some cases you need an additional WiFi stick for the PS3.
- For a WLAN connection, select the "Network settings" item in the "Settings" menu. In the "Internet connection settings" you choose "User-defined" and "Wireless".
- Now you can scan for available networks or enter the SSID of your router manually. Once you have selected your router, you must select the encryption used and then enter the key.
- Get the IP address, DNS setting and MTU value automatically and do not set up a DHCP host name or proxy server. UPnP should also be activated. Your PS3 is now connected to the network.
Set up media server in Windows 7
To use your PC as a media server, you have to install Windows Media Player 11 or a newer version in Windows 7. Make sure the PS3 is turned on and connected to the network before making the following settings.
- Start Windows Media Player and select "Enable media streaming" from the "Stream" menu. If you have already done so, the "More streaming options" option will appear instead.
- Check "Allow media to be played automatically by devices" so that the PS3 can play media content from the PC.
- It continues on the PS3: In the "Settings" menu, select "Network settings" and allow the connection to the media server.
- The "Find media server" option is now available under "Photo", "Video" and "Music". Select this option to access media content in the My Pictures, My Videos, and My Music folders on your Windows 7 PC.
- You can now stream the content released in Windows Media Player on the PS3. Remember that the PC must be switched on during this time.
