You can find out the country of origin and the model of your PlayStation using the serial number.
- You will often find the serial number of your PS3 console on the bottom or back and on the sales box.
- Special PS3 bundles with an exclusive game usually have their own serial number, which is linked to the respective game.
- There is a barcode above the serial number, including the serial number. This consists of three parts: the prefix, the serial number of the console and the model number.
- Example of a serial number of the PS3: "SERIAL: 03-2743021-6371337-CECHC04". The first part "03-2743021" describes the so-called prefix, followed by the serial number "6371337" and the model number "CECHC04".
- This number may differ depending on the model. Each console's serial number is unique; however, the model number is often the same.
- The model number describes the specifications of your console. Here you can, for example, read how much storage space the console has or how many USB ports are available.
- You will find two digits at the end of the model number. These tell where the console comes from. Usually "04" should stand for Europe.

- When purchasing a new console, make sure that the serial number on the console matches that on the sales box.
- The serial number should normally also be stated on your receipt.
- If there are any irregularities, contact the Sony hotline or the market where you bought the console.
- If you buy a used console from the Internet, it can happen that the serial number has been made illegible by the seller.
- In this case, also contact the Sony hotline and the seller to get your money if necessary.
