PS3: Update via USB stick - how it works
If you cannot update your PlayStation automatically via the Internet, the PS3 can also be updated using a USB stick. We show you how it works.
Step 1: Load PS3 update on USB stick
- First, connect a USB stick, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, or a PSP to your computer.
- Open the USB stick with a file manager and create a folder called "PS3". Within the folder, create another folder called "UPDATE".
- Download the current PlayStation 3 firmware from the CHIP download area and copy it to the "UPDATE" folder.
Step 2: install PS3 update on the console
- Insert the USB stick into your PlayStation 3 and start the console.
- Now select the "Update via data medium" option in the "System update" category in the PS3 home menu.
- As soon as you select the USB stick from the list of devices, the new firmware is loaded and installed.
