PS4: controller speaker not working - what to do?
If the loudspeaker of your PS4 controller does not work, we will help you to troubleshoot the problem.
Check if the game supports the controller speaker
A common misconception that leads to confusion is that every PlayStation 4 game inevitably supports the speaker of the PS4 controller.
- In fact, this feature is an optional feature that not every game supports. The developer can therefore decide for himself whether he wants to integrate the function and whether it makes sense for his game.
- For this reason, there are only a handful of games that support the speaker of the PS4 controller. While FIFA 14 or Watch_Dogs do without the function, the speaker is used in the controller of the PlayStation 4 controller, for example in Killzone Shadowfall or Resogun.
- So if you suspect that the speaker of your controller is not working, first check whether the game supports the speaker at all.
Is the controller speaker activated in PS4 settings?
Before you have to worry about the worst, the speaker on the PlayStation 4 controller may just be muted:
- To check, first open the "Settings", then the category "Devices" and then "Controller".
- If the volume control is on the far left, you can increase the volume by pressing the right button.
Controller speaker still doesn't work
If the first two tips have not led to a result, the speaker of your PlayStation 4 controller actually appears to be defective.
- In this case, we recommend that you contact the Sony support service directly and describe your problem there. You may have to send your controller for repair or get a warranty.
- Alternatively, you can also contact your dealer from whom you purchased the controller.
