With a jailbreak, numerous systems can be broken open, including the PS4. In this practical tip, we tell you what advantages jailbreaking on PlayStation 4 brings and why you should still stay away from it.
PS4 jailbreak - is there?
- In 2014, Sony was hacked by the "Lizard Squad" group. The hackers reported a security vulnerability that could jailbreak PlayStation 4.
- Shortly after the release, there were first instructions on how to hack the PS4 using firmware. Now a modchip like the PS3 could appear soon.
- With a jailbreak, you can create pirated copies, crack DLCs and use homebrews on the PlayStation 4. All things that Sony will not like to see.
- With the PS4 firmware version 1.76, hackers could already install a Linux system on the console. However, there are hardly any consoles with this very early firmware. A downgrade is unfortunately not possible.
PS4: These types of jailbreak already exist
- In various forums you will find instructions on how to use a security hole to break up the system of your PS4. The modified firmware is transferred to the console via USB stick and installed automatically. You can then simply copy all the games you have inserted. Of course, this is not allowed.
- Maybe a modchip for the PlayStation 4 will appear soon. This is soldered onto the board of the console, which allows direct access to the system. This method is also illegal. In the worst case, if Sony catches you, you can end up in court for illegal piracy.
Update: No jailbreak for the PS4 in 2017 either
- Almost four years after the release of PlayStation 4, a jailbreak is still not available to the masses. The console hacker Fail0verflow already has a custom firmware for firmware version 4.05.
- Whether this will soon be available in a stable and final version for all PS4 users is still a matter of question. If you have not yet updated to a newer firmware, it might be worth waiting for it.
