Connect PS4 to PC - how it works
Connect your PlayStation 4 to the PC, you can use the PS4 as a media center or stream games to your computer. Games, videos, films, pictures and music stored on the PlayStation 4 can also be played from a PC. We'll show you how it's done.
PlayStation 4: Stream games to PC or Mac
Since firmware update 3.50, you can stream games from PlayStation 4 to your computer. Only the image and sound are transferred to your PC while the game is running on the Playstation. You can still control from the PC, the dual-shock controller can be connected to the computer via USB. If you would like to share media between PC and PS4, you will find suitable instructions in the next paragraph.
- First download and install PS4 Remote Play for Windows or Mac.
- Start the PlayStation 4 and open the "Remote Play connection settings" in the settings.
- Select the "Enable Remote Play" option and add a new device. A code is then displayed on the screen.
- Start the software already installed on your computer and type in the code there.
- If the console and computer are on the same network, the connection between the devices is established.
- The requirements for the computer are comparatively low: at least Windows 8.1, an Intel Core i5-560M processor with 2.67 GHz or better, and a correspondingly fast network connection.
- Tip: Alternatively, you can connect your PS4 controller directly to the PC or Mac. If the transmission stops, connect both devices to your router using a LAN cable.
Connect PlayStation 4 to the computer
Note: As an alternative to the following instructions, you can also stream videos to the PS4 using PLEX.
- Open the Control Panel and select the category "Network and Internet".
- In the "Network and Sharing Center" you will find the item "Home Network Group" at the bottom left.
- If there is no home network group yet, you should first create a home network group.
- Now select the option "Allow my shared content to be played on all devices on this network, such as TV sets and game consoles".
- It is now searched for available devices in the network. The PlayStation 4 is mostly shown as "Unknown device".
- Activate the "Allowed" option on the right and click the "Next" button below.
- Now select the content to be released. The content is released via the "Finish" button.
- Then open the media player on the PS4 and the shared library will appear there. Here you have access to all shared content.
PlayStation 4: This content can be streamed from the PC
In order for the PS4 to be able to access the content released by the PC, it must be in a compatible format.
- Video: MKV, AVI, MP4 or MPEG-2 TS
- Photo: JPEG, PNG and BMP
- Music: MP3, AAC and M4A
