PS4: Sound delayed and asynchronous to the picture - what to do?
In many cases, if the sound from your PS4 is sent to the TV with a delay, you can solve the problem yourself. We'll show you how it's done.
PlayStation 4: Why is the picture and sound delayed?
- The problem occurs especially when you do not transmit sound and picture together via an HDMI cable, but instead run the sound through an installation with an optical cable.
- Thanks to a high-resolution picture, modern televisions always take some time to process the TV signal. This creates a delay of a few milliseconds, which is still visible.
- In most cases, the problem can be solved by sending sound and images to the TV only via the HDMI cable. If you want to continue playing the sound on another device, follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
PS4: How to Solve Delayed Sound and Image Problems
- Open the "Video playback settings" in the settings. Under "Output at 1080p / 24Hz" select the option "Automatic" or "Off". Just try both options.
- Open the "Sound and screen" category and the "Audio output settings" in the settings. Under "Primary output port" you will now find the "DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL)" function. If "PCM" is used here, switch to "Bitstream".
- If you send the audio signal to a receiver, you can configure a delay for many newer devices. This can shift the sound by a few milliseconds.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to connect an external hard drive to the PS4.
