PSN: Vulnerability - you should pay attention to this
A privacy vulnerability in the PlayStation Network allows every hacker to access the SQL database. This practical tip shows you how to protect yourself and what you should pay attention to.
PSN vulnerability: what can happen?
- In mid-October 2014, a security expert had already found the PSN vulnerability and informed Sony about it. A hacker can then use a function on the Sony support website by sending a request to the Sony SQL database server using a manipulated parameter in a URL and thus accessing all customer data.
- Sony has not yet responded and has not closed the security hole in the PSN. You should therefore protect yourself, but this is only possible to a very limited extent.
Data protection in the PSN: You can do that yourself
Unfortunately, you have little or no influence on data protection at Sony.
- Don't use your PSN password anywhere else. In this way, in the event of data theft, you will at least not be more vulnerable.
- Otherwise there is unfortunately nothing you can do to protect your data. They are on the Sony server and not on your hard drive. It is therefore of no use if you change your password, for example, as long as the vulnerability has not yet been closed.
