PSP: Install homebrew - how it works
There are numerous different homebrews that you can install on the PSP. We'll show you where to find the homebrews and how to install them.
PSP: Install CFW before homebrew
Only a few homebrews can be installed directly on the PSP. Most homebrews only run with a so-called custom firmware (CFW). This is a slightly modified firmware that opens the PSP system for homebrews.
- There are different CFWs for the PSP. In this manual we use the ProUpdate-CFW which runs on all systems. If you access another CFW, you must first check whether it is compatible with your console.
- To install a CFW on the PSP, you always need the current firmware 6.60. If this is not the case for you, carry out a firmware update.
- Then connect your PSP to the PC using a USB cable and open the PSP folder there.
- Now copy the three folders from the just downloaded ZIP file of the ProUpdate-CFW into the "GAME" folder.
- Disconnect the PSP from the PC and select the memory stick in the PSP menu.
- Decide here for the item "Pro Update" and confirm the process.
- The PSP then restarts and the custom firmware is installed. This process can take some time.

- On the QJ.net website you will find a large selection of homebrews for the PSP. All downloads are free of charge.
- Open the respectively downloaded ZIP or RAR file and unzip the contained folders into the "GAME" folder on the PSP as described in the instructions above.
- You can then start the homebrew like normal games and applications via the menu of the memory stick.
