PSP or PS Vita - a comparison
We compare the PSP and the PS Vita for you and give you tips on whether it is worthwhile to reach for the more expensive pocket console.
The technology duel clearly wins the PS Vita
There are almost seven years between the release day of the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the PlayStation Vita. Technically speaking, the PS Vita is naturally at the forefront. This can also be clearly seen in the comparison of the two handhelds:
- PSP has had four models since 2005. The PSP 1000, PSP 2000, PSP 3000 and the PSP E1000. The first model had 32 MB RAM, the following three have 64 MB RAM. The graphics memory is 4 MB on all models. The dual-core CPU is clocked at 333 MHz. Gaming is easy on the 4.3-inch display. WLAN is integrated in all models except the PSP E1000.
- The PS Vita was launched in early 2012. In the PS Vita, a quad-core processor works with a 1.4 GHz clock rate and the RAM is a full 512 MB. The graphics memory has another 128 MB on board. The 5-inch display has a resolution of 960 x 544 pixels and a pixel density of 220 ppi. The capacitive multi-touchscreen also makes operation easier. The PS Vita is available as a WLAN and 3G model.
Game selection: PSP vs. PS Vita
Technically speaking, the PSP is behind. When it comes to game selection, however, the tide turns, as the PSP is seven years older and there are accordingly more games on the market.
- There are a lot of games from all genres for the PSP. Whether action adventure, jump and run, sports games, racing games or children's games - you will definitely find what you are looking for here. Even the first PSP games look very good for a portable console. Compared to the Nintendo DS, even the older PSP has the edge.
- At PS Vita, the focus is on action adventure games and shooters. Technically speaking, the PS Vita is clearly able to display the games crystal clear. The two analog sticks also make it easier for you as a gambler. However, the game selection here is still very limited. The best vita games are presented on the next page.
- Of course, the price of games is also important. On average, games for the PSP are around ten euros - used even far less. With the PS Vita, you have to lie down twice as much on average.
Which pocket console should I use?
You should make the decision based on which games you like to play and whether the graphics and gameplay is important to you. The price for the pocket console is also an argument.
- For the PSP you have to put around 100 euros on the table. You should therefore use the "old model" if you do not want to spend a lot of money on the pocket console and also want to save on games. In addition, the game selection for children and jump and run fans is larger.
- The PS Vita costs almost 190 euros in a bundle with games as a WiFi model. As a 3G model without games, you pay just under 200 euros. With PS Vita you can also play remote games from PS4. So if you already have a PS4, the vita is more interesting.
In addition to the Sony models, there are also other handhelds. That's why we compare the Nintendo 3DS and the PS Vita for you. We will also show you how to connect the PS Vita to the PS4.
