Playing PSP games on PC - is that possible?
There are PC emulators for numerous game consoles. This guide shows you how you can play your PSP games on the computer.
Playing PSP games on PC - is that possible?
- In short: yes, it works. With a small emulator, you can also play your PSP games on your PC.
- There are several PSP emulators, but most are full of advertisements or require your personal information.
- We show you an emulator that works with Java and thus runs under Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
Step 1: Download and start the PSP emulator
- The emulator is called JPCSP and is available on the manufacturer's website.
- Find your operating system in the list and click on the small icon on the right with the floppy disk. The download then starts.
- Note: Windows users have to choose between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions depending on the system. If you don't know which variant you need, we will help you in this practical tip.
- Once you've downloaded the emulator, extract the RAR file so that the emulator's folder is on your desktop.
- In the folder you will now find a file with the name "start-windows-x86" (or similar). Open the file, the emulator starts. You can simply minimize the black window.
- If the emulator does not start, you need the latest Java version. In our CHIP download area you will find both the Java 32-bit version and the Java 64-bit version.
Step 2: get the PSP game for the emulator
In order for your games to run in the emulator, they have to get onto your computer. This works in two ways:
- Via the legal variant, you make a copy of your PSP games on your PSP. To do this, load the UMDumper on the SD card of your PSP and then start it on the PSP. An image of the game is then saved on the SD card and can be transferred to the computer.
- If this is too complicated for you, there is only the less legal variant of an ISO file. For legal reasons, however, we expressly advise against downloading ISO files for PSP games on the Internet. You can also quickly catch a virus on the download pages.
Step 3: play PSP game on PC
- Click on the "File" menu item in the top left of the emulator and select the "Load File" option for PBP files or "Load UMD" for ISO and CSO files.
- Then find the path with the PSP game. If the game consists of only one file, open it with a double click. If you can see the individual files of the game, always open the file EBOOT.PBP.
- Once you have opened the file, click on the "Run" button at the top right. Then the game starts.
- You can find the "Controls" option via the "Options" menu item. Here is a guide for control via keyboard.
