Viruses, Trojans and other malware end up on the computers of this world every day, including PUP. This practical tip shows you exactly what that is and how to get rid of PUP.
Malware: what is PUP?
- The abbreviation PUP stands for "potentially unwanted program". It is software that is not as dangerous as viruses and Trojans, but should not be on your computer.
- The best known example of PUP are toolbars. Most PC users had probably already installed a toolbar in the browser. As a rule, the installation was not done on purpose. In most cases, toolbars are also not used.
- In addition to the toolbars, there are many other types of PUP. Programs that offer a system check are often represented. After a successful scan, errors are found in the system and rectification is offered by purchasing a paid version. This is not prohibited, but it is extremely questionable.
- As a rule, the PUPs do not pose any real danger. However, the programs have no real use for you and can spy data, sell products and slow down your PC. For this reason, PUPs are also frequently reported by anti-virus programs.
Remove PUP - how does it work?
- The potentially unwanted programs (PUP) usually get onto your computer unintentionally. Free software is often financed by installing PUPs at the same time. To avoid installation in the future, always deselect additional software when installing programs.
- Since they are not stubborn viruses, you can remove any PUP yourself without much effort. Here you will find instructions for deinstallation. If software appears to be superfluous or dubious, do a short Google search before removal so that no important software is accidentally uninstalled.
