QR Code Reader Online: How to read the code without an app
Usually you decrypt a QR code with an app on your phone. However, it is also possible without using an online reader. All you need is a browser. We show you how it works.
QR Code Reader Online: How to read the code without an app
If you don't have an app for reading a QR code, you can decrypt the small squares online. We present you an easy-to-use and free tool:
- Open the webqr.com website in your browser. The site is kept very simple and focuses exclusively on the QR code.
- There are two options for decrypting a QR code: either hold the code in front of the camera or upload an image of the QR code. The selection is made via the video camera or photo camera symbol above the empty field.
- If you have decided on a photo and uploaded the image of the QR code or dragged it into the field, the decryption will appear in the text field below the image field.
- By the way, you can easily create your own QR code on this page. To do this, select "Create" above the image field. If you then enter the desired URL or a text, the associated QR code is automatically generated.
Read out the QR code on the smartphone using the on-board equipment
If you have an Android smartphone, you may be able to read a QR code with it without installing an additional app. On iPhones, this works in any case via the camera app.
- To do this, open the camera app and hold the camera of your smartphone on the QR code.
- If that doesn't work right away, check the settings to see if you can explicitly allow scanning of QR codes here. However, not all Android phones have this additional feature.
- Android users can also download "Google Lens" on their smartphones.
- If you activate Google Lens, you can use this feature to read QR codes on your mobile phone in the future.
What are QR Codes?
QR stands for "Quick Response", which means "quick response".
- A QR code is a two-dimensional version of the older barcode. The QR code was developed in 1994 by a Japanese company.
- The black and white cubes contain a lot of encrypted information and are very easy to create.
- For example, you can use apps such as QuickMark - QR code reader and barcode scanner on your iPhone to quickly and easily encrypt your contacts or the URL of your website.
- However, QR codes are limited in terms of the amount of information they can contain. You can place a maximum of 177 × 177 elements in the squares.
- That is enough for 4, 296 alphanumeric characters or 7, 089 decimal numbers.
