QuarkXpress as freeware - is there?
With the professional layout software "QuarkXPress" you can design magazines, flyers, apps and much more. The program is not freeware. You can find out how you can still use "QuarkXPress" for free here:
1. 30-day trial with full QuarkXPress functionality
The full version of QuarkXPress costs around 830 euros, pupils and students are included with 80 euros. However, the free trial version may be enough for one or two publications. You can download it here for both Windows and Mac. It is limited to 7 days. Alternatively, you can download a 30-day trial if you give a good reason.
- To do this, open this link and register. Without registration, neither the free trial phase nor the use of a purchased version is possible.
- You will then receive a download link by email, where you can find the file. It is usually between 250 and 600 MB in size.
- In the next step you have to create a so-called "download account" and enter some personal information. Unfortunately, there is no other way.
- But don't worry: the download account is free and contains no obligations. All chargeable things are handled externally via a quark shop.
- Once you have successfully registered, you will be redirected back to the QuarkXPress trial version, where you will need to click the download button again.
- Then the download begins as a ZIP file, which you only have to unzip and install.
2. QuarkXPress for free as a design app
A second option is the free "QuarkXPress DesignPad" for the iPad. With the you can develop similarly sophisticated layouts on the go and also get the many advantages that the iPad brings:
- You can use the iPad's photo library and include your own images in the layout.
- Alternatively, you can also use a large pool of royalty-free images. Quark makes these available to you for free processing.
- You can load the finished files as PNG or PDF into your Dropbox, send them by email or share them on Facebook.
What can QuarkXpress do?
- No matter what type of product you want to design, the app can do almost anything: brochures, business cards, flyers, cards and posters are a matter of course.
- The format is also irrelevant here: you get the standard A4 format with one touch; you can determine any other size yourself using sliders or the input function.
- To make it easier for you to design on the iPad, you can do the basic layout before you start designing the content: how many columns should there be and at what intervals do you want to work?
- To be able to use the app effectively, you need the upgrade by in-app purchase. The price is currently just under 5 euros. But the purchase is worthwhile.
