QuarkXPress: create bleed - how it works
With the QuarkXPress layout software, the settings for creating the bleed are somewhat hidden - we will show them to you.
1. QuarkXPress: Show bleed lines
You cannot have the lines for the bleed automatically displayed in QuarkXPress, as in Adobe Indesign, for example. Instead, you need to add them yourself:
- Open the "auxiliary lines" via the "Window" tab.
- Click on the small symbol at the top right below the red "X" with which you close the window (see picture).
- Now select "Create gradient and safety help lines ...".
- Now you have to set the gate, at millimeters approx. 4.25 pt.
- With the "Preview" button you can immediately see the bleed lines and position them precisely.
Add bleed when exporting to PDF
If you export your data as a PDF for printing, proceed as follows:
- Choose File> Export> Layout As PDF.
- Then click on "Options" and navigate to the "Bleed" tab.
- Here you must now specify the type of gate and the exact dimensions.
If you have several QuarkXPress documents, you can easily combine the individual Quark pages.
