Radicchio: The bitter salad is so healthy
Italian radiccio is loved and hated for its bitter aroma. In this practical tip we will explain how healthy the salad is and what is in it.
Radicchio is so healthy
Whether steamed, cooked or raw in a salad: Radicchio is versatile. Its bitter taste gives many dishes an extraordinary touch. The red and white salad also contains numerous vitamins and minerals that make it particularly healthy:
- Inulin: This is one of the main components of the salad. Together with fruit and grape sugars, which are also contained in it, the compound acts as fiber and stimulates your digestion. Inulin also lowers your cholesterol level.
- Bitter substances: The bitter substances contained in radicchio are also good for digestion, and they also act as a natural appetite suppressant. So a small amount of the salad is enough to make you feel full.
- Vitamin A: The red lettuce contains a particularly large amount of vitamin A. We have already explained what exactly it is all about in another practical tip.
- Minerals: Radicchio contains a lot of potassium, which regulates your blood pressure and electrolyte balance. Phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and iron are also included.
- Vitamin C: With just under 28 grams of vitamin C per 100 grams of radicchio, the salad is a good supplier of the important vitamin, especially during its winter season.
- B vitamins: Radicchio contains several vitamins from the B family, which have a metabolic activating effect and are good for blood formation.
