Improve radio reception - the best tips and tricks
If you do not receive all the stations with your radio or if you want to improve the radio reception due to disturbing noise, we will help you in this practical tip. We will tell you various tricks on how to receive your favorite channels in every room.
Improve radio reception: Settings on the radio
First check whether your radio only receives mono signals or stereo signals.
- Switch the reception to mono if your radio also supports stereo reception.
- The required reception power for mono signals corresponds to only a fraction of the power required for a stereo signal. You can already significantly reduce noise or hum.
- Also try to tune in the desired station manually. Depending on the location, the optimal frequency ranges may vary slightly.
Better radio reception thanks to external antenna
If you have a radio with a connection for an external antenna, you can also use it to improve reception:
- If you have a connection for a telescopic antenna, you should connect an antenna with a minimum length of 38 centimeters. To get the best reception you have to experiment a little with the alignment.
- If there is a coax connection on your radio, you should connect a wire antenna with a length of 1.5 meters. Align this antenna vertically and pay attention to the reception quality. A slight inclination is not a problem - but the antenna should not run horizontally on the wall.
- If there is no additional connection on your radio, but a short telescopic antenna is permanently installed, you can extend it with a copper wire that has been wound together. Make sure that the wire rests on the largest possible area of the telescopic antenna.
- A coaxial connection is also required if you want to improve your reception with an electrically amplified antenna.
