In the survival game Raft, you have to fight for survival on a raft while being attacked by a shark. This is even more fun with a partner in multiplayer mode. You can find out from us what you need to consider.
Raft's multiplayer - you need to know that
Survival games are very popular. No matter whether it is simple games like Minecraft (which is also available as a mobile game), indie games like Don't Starve or blockbusters like ARK: Survival Evolved, many people are attracted to the hunter-gatherer drive and like it in the game to fight for survival. Generally this is more fun in multiplayer mode. It is the same with Raft with its simple graphics and colorful world. The principle of the game remains the same - build a raft, develop better tools and devices and make your life easier. However, there are a few points to consider.
- Raft is currently only available on Steam. So if you're on another gaming platform, you're out of luck.
- The advantage of this, however, is that it's very easy to link up with friends to play on Steam. When you are in the game online and hosting it for others, your friends can help you survive by joining your hosted game.
- In theory, you can play with an infinite number of players in multiplayer.
- The number of players actually depends on the performance of the host computer. Feasible tests were run for up to 8 players. After that, it becomes unrealistic because of the performance limit of even the most powerful gaming PCs.
- Rafting is easier to conquer in several. Playing alone is a challenge, especially at the beginning. There is a lot to do here: you will have to enlarge the raft, build tools, fend off the shark and look for islands in time as they contain rare materials.
- A good division of labor and coordination are required in multiplayer. It is best if everyone has their fixed area of responsibility. For example, one player can take care of the enlargement of the raft, the next one that there is always enough food in which to fish and the third one takes care of a good supply of resources.
- In raft, all resources want to be fetched from the water using catch hooks, which takes a lot of concentration and time. Defending the raft is best tackled together, because the shark (and later other opponents) is a persistent journeyman.

By clicking on "New World", the top item in the main menu, you can create a new world. In the submenu you can set the difficulty, name the world, determine who is allowed to join, set whether self-shelling is possible and also set a password if you want to be completely undisturbed with certain players.
With the second point, "Load world", you can load a world that has already been created. If you still want to play alone, you can set here whether someone is allowed to join, whether you can fire yourself and whether a password is created. If there are problems with the file, you can open the folder in which the file is located.
The third point, "Join World", lets you enter the worlds of your friends or other unknown players, if they allow it. The name of the friend or host is shown in the submenu. You have to click on it, then click on "Join World" in the submenu and the fun can begin! If you don't see your friend's world, although this should be the case, the "Refresh" button can help. This renews the list of friends who host a world.
Below we explain step-by-step what you need to do to host a game. You can find more information in the picture gallery.
- For hosting to work at all, your PC must meet certain minimum requirements: It should have at least a Windows 7 or a newer operating system with an Intel Core i5 2.6 GHz processor (or a comparable model). You also need 3 GB of available hard disk space and 8 GB of RAM, as well as a GeForce GTX 700 Series (or a comparable model). Your DierctX should be updated to version 11.
- Start rafting by selecting the game in your Steam library.
- Now you get to the main menu. To create a world that friends can join, click on the top button "New World".
- This calls up a submenu. You can now see different tabs that allow you to choose the difficulty.
- In the field under "World Name" you have to give your world a name in order to be able to create it.
- Under this input field you have a somewhat darker selection field with a small arrow pointing downwards. In order to host a game for your friends, you must click here to select "Friends can join". This way your friends can join your created world via the "Join World" item and you will host it for your friends.
- If you select "Friendly Fire", you and your friends can hurt each other with guns. However, you should only select this option if you are already familiar with the game!
- In the field below, which says "Password", you can set a password that players who want to join your world have to enter. However, this is optional.
- Now all you have to do is click on "create world" and the game will generate a world for you. A little patience is necessary here, because creating a new world can take a few minutes.
- It should also be mentioned that if you don't want to host your world just for friends, you have to create a new world, save it and then reload it.
- If you click on "Load world" in the main menu, a submenu similar to "New World" appears. Here you can also set in the darker selection menu that everyone is allowed to join, not just your friends.
- The third menu item, "Join World", lets you enter the worlds of your friends or other unknown players, if they allow it. The name of the friend or host is shown in the submenu. You have to click on it, then click on "Join World" in the submenu and the fun can begin!
- If you don't see your friend's world, although this should be the case, the "Refresh" button can help. This renews the list of friends who host a world.
