Set up Raid 1 under Windows - how it works
If you want to use two hard drives in a network, you must first set up Raid 1. Find out in our practical tip how to do this.
Set up Raid 1 on Windows - so proceed
Note: Before starting the setup, make a backup of your entire system. So you are on the safe side in case of problems.
- Next, you need to find out if your PC has a raid connection. You can check this in the manual.
- If this is not the case, you have to buy a raid adapter and plug it into a free PCI Express slot on your PC. The power cable should be disconnected from the PC so that you do not get an electric shock.
- You must now connect the two hard drives of the same size to the RAID port using a SATA cable. When you have done this, you can reassemble and start your PC.
- Now switch to the BIOS and there under "BIOS Utility" the item "Advanced"> "IDE Configuration".
- Under "SATA Option" you have to select "RAID". Save the changes and then restart.
- After the restart you have to switch to the BIOS again. There you should now find a new menu item where you can configure the RAID.
- Select the two hard disks there and configure them as "Raid 1". After a final restart, Raid 1 was successfully set up.
