Crack RAR password - (how) does it work?
If you have forgotten the password of a RAR or ZIP archive, you can crack it with a small tool. You can find out how this works, what you need to consider and which archives you can decrypt here.
Cracking passwords from RAR archives - possible or not?
- Basically, every RAR password can be cracked. However, the duration of the process strongly depends on how securely the password was set.
- A password like "1234567" is cracked after one minute at the latest. However, if there are numerous variations such as numbers, special characters and capital letters as in " ? 1 * ~ 2ku", it is more likely that your PC will crash when decrypting after one year of continuous operation than the password will be cracked.
- However, the process can be accelerated by restricting the search. If you know, for example, that there are no special characters in the password, you can have them excluded.
- In the next paragraph, we present a program that works with the brute force method. All possible passwords are therefore systematically tried out.
- However, please note that cracking third-party RAR archives is punishable by law. Legally, you are only allowed to decrypt your own files.
Decrypt RAR passwords
With this tool you can crack passwords from ZIP, RAR, ARJ and ACE archives.
- Download the Advanced Archive Password Recovery program and install it.
- Start the program and click on the "Open" button at the top. Select the desired archive here.
- Now you can narrow down the search if you have information about the password. For example, if you know that your passwords never had special characters or were longer than ten letters, you can specify this and thus speed up the search considerably.
- Once you have made all the settings, click on the "Start" button at the top. The brute force attack is now started. Depending on the security level of the password, it can now take a few seconds or several days for the password to be cracked.
