Shut down Raspberry Pi properly - how it works
If you are using a Raspberry Pi, you should treat the device like a real computer and shut it down properly. We show you how to do this with the Raspberry Pi.
Instructions: Shut down the Raspberry Pi correctly
Since the Raspberry Pi does not have an on / off switch, it is shutdown using a terminal command. Simply disconnect the device from the power, there is almost no hardware damage, but in the worst case the system can become unusable.
- If you manage your Raspberry Pi via an SSH connection, for example via putty, log in first as usual.
- Now you only need the command "sudo shutdown -h 0" (without quotes). The Raspberry Pi then switches off.
- When the system is completely shut down, the OK LED on the Raspberry Pi starts to flash. You can now disconnect the device from the power.
- Note: With the command "sudo shutdown -r 0" you can restart the system if necessary.
