Raspberry Pi: Install Ubuntu - Here's how
Thanks to the more powerful processor in the Raspberry Pi 2, it is now possible to install the Linux distribution Ubuntu on it. You can find step-by-step instructions for this in the practical tip below.
Download Raspberry Pi: Ubuntu and flash to SD card
In order to get Ubuntu up and running on your Raspberry Pi, you must first download the current image and transfer it to the SD card of your Raspberry Pi:
- The first thing to do is to download the latest version of Ubuntu-Mate from their website.
- Download the Win32 Disk Imager program from our download area and install it.
- Now insert your SD card from the Raspberry Pi into a suitable reader on your computer and open the Win32 Disk Imager.
- Open the downloaded image from Ubuntu-Mate under "Image File" and select the drive letter of your SD card under "Device".
- Finally click on "Write". The image is now transferred to the SD card.
Raspberry Pi: Install Ubuntu
After you have played Ubuntu-Mate on the SD card of your Raspberry Pi, it must now be installed:
- First insert the SD card into your Raspberry Pi and connect your required devices such as mouse, keyboard, monitor and network cable.
- Now connect the power cable to your Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi now starts up and starts with the configuration screen.
- Here you have to set the desired language, time zone and keyboard layout and then create a user.
- Now Ubuntu-Mate installs itself. After the successful installation, you can log in with your previously defined user data.
