Cooling the room in summer: This way your room stays comfortably warm
When the temperatures reach tropical heights, your rooms will also heat up. In this article we will tell you how to cool a room and which tips really help.
Cool the room through proper ventilation
If you ventilate your rooms, then ventilate them properly.
- Never open your windows in the heat of the day. Always wait until the outside thermometer shows you lower temperatures than the one in the apartment. This is usually the case from late evening to early morning.
- The important thing is the draft and how long you leave the windows open. If possible, let the cool air flow through the apartment for hours.
- If it is still tropically hot in the evening or at night, you should keep the windows closed. Even a brief ventilation heats up your room.
Do not let the sun into the apartment
Sun rays heat up your rooms. So it's best to lock out the sun.
- Keep the roller shutters closed during the day. If you do not have roller shutters, you should get thermal roller blinds. Alternatively, an opaque curtain helps.
- In extreme temperatures and long-lasting summer weather, you can use a sun protection film on your windows. Even a thick piece of cardboard the size of a window prevents a large rise in temperature.
- If you have a terrace or a balcony, you can attach a venetian blind on the outside after consulting the landlord. If the landlord does not give your consent, consider placing a parasol in front of your window.
Active cooling for the home
You can actively cool your home with simple measures.
- Use thin linen or light cotton sheets and dampen the fabric with water. Fitted sheets are less suitable here.
- Wring out the cloth. You can hang the sheets in the middle of the room or on the window. If there is a heat with high humidity outside, please refrain from this advice.
- Make sure that no water drops fall on the floor. Place a tub under the cloth for safety. A fan distributes the cool air in the room.
- Small bowls with ice cubes distributed in the room also ensure cooling.
Avoid unnecessary sources of heat
All electrical appliances radiate heat.
- Therefore, switch off all devices that you do not necessarily need. This applies to the computer as well as to the TV set.
- Lamps radiate a lot of heat. If a room does not need to be illuminated, switch off the light.
- If possible, the kitchen stays cold. The stove not only heats the food, but also the apartment. A crisp salad or a cheese platter is healthy and filling.
Room cooling with fan
First of all: A fan is always a source of heat, even if it brings subjective coolness at first.
- The fan does not really cool, but only lets the air circulate. This gives you the feeling that it is “fresher” in your room.
- Place a bowl of ice cubes in front of the blower so that the cooler air can be transported further.
- Avoid exposing yourself to a permanent breeze. Ear pain and conjunctivitis could be the result, but also a cold.
- It's best to let the fan blow on a wall. This is how it best distributes the air and keeps the inner wall a little cooler.
Body cool in summer
If they cool themselves, a high room temperature becomes more bearable.
