A RAW drive is only of limited use. We'll tell you how to convert it to NTFS.
Convert RAW to NTFS in Windows Explorer
To be able to use a RAW partition under Windows, you must first convert it into NTFS format. This works through formatting. You can easily do this using Windows Explorer:
- To do this, open the drive overview by pressing the key combination [Win] + [E] and changing to the "This PC" area.
- Right click the RAW drive you want to convert.
- In the menu, select "Format
".
- Then set the "NTFS" option under "File system" and start formatting.
Format the RAW drive as NTFS using disk management
Unfortunately, the way via Windows Explorer only works if a drive letter has been assigned to the RAW disk. If this is not the case, you have to take the detour via Windows Disk Management:
- Press the key combination [Win] + [R] to open the Windows Run dialog.
- Enter and run the "diskmgmt.msc" command (without the quotation marks) to start Disk Management.
- Right-click on the RAW drive in the overview and select "Format" in the context menu
" out.
- Make sure that "NTFS" is selected in the formatting menu and confirm this with "OK".
- Now you should assign a drive letter to the drive: To do this, right-click the drive again and select "Change drive letter and paths" in the context menu
". Click" Add
"and enter an available drive letter.
