RCS: Rich Communications Service simply explained
What is hidden behind the three inconspicuous letters RCS is quickly explained. The Rich Communications Service is no longer brand new, but it could get off to a good start soon.
Rich Communications Service explains - an interesting alternative to WhatsApp
The Rich Communications Service was developed in 2012 and is intended to replace the somewhat outdated SMS. Google and many mobile phone providers in particular are now pushing the establishment of RCS.
- RCS has a lot to offer and a lot ahead of the SMS, which is now almost thirty years old. But not just SMS - the Rich Communications Service could also make WhatsApp fear.
- In contrast to the messaging apps, the Rich Communications Service is also SMS-independent and can be used on all smartphones. So you are no longer dependent on the recipient using the same app as you. If the recipient has an old cell phone, they will still receive your message - in this case as an SMS.
- To use RCS, two prerequisites are necessary. The operating system of your smartphone and your wireless service provider must support the Rich Communications Service. Some mobile phone providers such as O2 with Message + Call, Telekom with Message + and Vodafone with Vodafone Call + already support the standard.
RCS - these are the advantages
Basically, RCS offers the same convenience as most messaging apps.
- With the Rich Communications Service, you are no longer bound to the annoying 160 character limitation of an SMS.
- You can send videos in the same way as pictures or voice messages.
- In addition, group and video chats should be possible with the Rich Communications Service.
- If you are a fan of emojis, you do not have to do without them at the RCS.
- One of the great advantages of RCS is data protection. Unlike WhatsApp, with RCS you will probably not have any problems with the GDPR.
- Because with the Rich Communications Service, unlike WhatsApp, the stored data of the smartphone, such as the phone book entries, is not accessed. The data exchange at the RCS is encrypted.
This also makes RCS attractive for companies, because using WhatsApp on company cell phones can be very expensive.
