Receiver does not respond to remote control - what to do?

If your receiver does not respond to the remote control, there are several things you should try before you buy a new one. We'll show you how easy it is to solve the problem.
Receiver does not respond: Check remote control batteries
First of all, you should check whether the remote control gets any power at all. Inserting new batteries is not enough.
- The remote control sends an infrared signal each time the button is pressed. People cannot see this with the naked eye. However, there are some tools.
- Shine a flashlight into the sensor and press any key. Alternatively, you can also film the sensor with the cell phone camera, which also detects infrared signals.
- If you see the light in the sensor, the remote control at least sends signals. If no signal is visible, replace the batteries. If new batteries do not help, there is most likely a defect.
Remote control does not work: check frequency
You may have changed the frequency of the remote control unconsciously. Fortunately, the problem can be solved quickly.
- You can change the frequency in the menu of the receiver. How this works can be found in the device-specific instructions for the device or find out more on the manufacturer's website.
- Also check that you have selected the correct input channel on the TV (INPUT, TV / AV, TV / VIDEO or Source).
- Some remote controls can alternately control multiple devices. You will usually find a button or switch at the top that is responsible for this change. Try to find the right setting here.
Receiver no longer responds to remote control - check receiver
If the problem is not with the remote control, check the receiver:
- Make sure that there are no vases or other objects in front of the receiver window of the receiver and that there is a clear path between the remote control and the receiver.
- Check whether the receiver window on the receiver is dirty. This can restrict reception. If you have just set up the receiver, remove all protective films.
- It is best to read in the operating instructions of the receiver how far apart the remote control and receiver can be. Check the signal from different distances.
Receiver does not react to remote control: further tips & tricks
- Switch off your receiver and pull out the plug. After a few minutes, reconnect the receiver and try again.
- If available, try operating your receiver with another remote control from the same provider. If that doesn't work either, check that you have set the correct frequency for the remote control.
- In some cases, the problems are also related to the receiver software. If the problem persists, perform a reset.
- With some receivers there is so much technology in the remote control that it contains its own system. You can then also reset this system.
Exchange or complaint of the receiver
If your remote control still no longer responds to the receiver, it may be defective.
- In this case, depending on the device manufacturer, you can try to claim the remote control and replace it with a new one.
- Simply contact the manufacturer with the model name of your device. You can find contact options on the corresponding manufacturer websites.
- If you do not receive a new remote control from the manufacturer, you should look around on Ebay or Ebay classified ads. There you will find used remote controls for a small price.
