Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the game highlights of 2018. Unfortunately, it has only been released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One so far. This article will tell you whether you can still count on a PC version.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - is it coming to the PC?
Red Dead Redemption 2 was announced by Rockstar Games in October 2016 and finally released on October 26, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is not yet available for the PC. Such a version was neither officially confirmed nor expressly excluded.
- So far, the Red Dead Redemption series has not yet been implemented for the PC. Both Red Dead Revolver (2004) and Red Dead Redemption (2010) were only released for the Sony and Microsoft consoles, but not for the PC - although there were rumors about this again and again.
- Many other games developed by Rockstar Games, on the other hand, have found their way onto the PC, albeit often with a delay.
- The best-known example is Grand Theft Auto 5, which only appeared for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and was only released for the PC around two years later. Fans also had to wait a long time for the announcement. It is quite possible that Red Dead Redemption 2 behaves similarly.
Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC - so far only rumors
Rumors are circulating on the Internet that Red Dead Redemption 2 will still appear for the PC in the future. Unfortunately, all of this is not a real confirmation of such a version.
- The Rockstar programmer's LinkedIn profile had already been published in June 2018, in which he explicitly listed the PC as the target platform for Red Dead Redemption 2. The entry was removed shortly after it became known. There has never been an opinion on this.
- At the end of October 2018, Media Markt Sweden had listed a PC version of the game in its online shop, which was supposed to appear at the end of 2019 and could already be pre-ordered. This entry has also been deleted. According to Media Markt, it was only a placeholder, as a later release for the PC was expected.
- Xbox boss Phil Spencer had caused further speculation with a tweet: On October 25, 2018, Spencer asked his followers to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One S or the PC - and had many readers accepted, he already knew about an unannounced PC port.
- The operators of the Rockstar Intel blog delivered further exciting tips in October: Some resourceful users took a closer look at the program code of the official Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion app and discovered many tips about a planned PC version: For example, there are a striking number of graphics options including the naming of the Nvidia exclusive graphics technology TXAA as well as references to the virtual reality glasses Oculus Rift. It is therefore conceivable that a later release for the PC will even bring VR support with it.
- All in all, there is much to be said for a later PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2. It remains to be seen whether this will actually come. Furthermore, it remains completely open when such an implementation would appear. A release this year is no longer expected, so that PC gamers can experience the Western adventure at the earliest in 2019.
