Read tire age - how it works
To assess the condition of a tire, you must also read the age. We show you how to do it here.
Determine the age of a tire - this is how you proceed
You will find the so-called DOT notation ("Department of Transportion") on all tires produced today. You can read more information about the tire from the string:
- The DOT notation always begins with the character string "DOT". It is located on the outside of the tire. This is followed by two up to four-digit abbreviations for the manufacturing plant and the tire size. The last four digits are interesting for you.
- These four numbers describe the week of production and the year of production. For example, if the result is "5012", the tire was produced in calendar week 50 in 2012.
- You should note that legally up to 5 year old tires can be sold as new.
