Resetting the Nintendo Switch can fix various problems. If the console freezes, a game is not working properly, or you have connection problems, there are different ways to reset the console and make it work again.
Nintendo Switch Reset: Clear browser data
If you have problems connecting to the WiFi or pages in the eShop are not displayed correctly, it usually helps to empty the Cashe. This deletes all browser data such as cookies, the history and the cache, which often cause such errors, from the cache. Storage statuses, firmware and personal settings are retained.
- First open the home menu on the Switch.
- Go to the system settings and select "Console".
- In the "formatting functions", choose "Reset Cashe" to delete all browser data.
Reset saved text on the switch keyboard
The Switch's digital keyboard stores words and phrases so you can type faster and easier. However, if you do not want certain phrases to continue to appear there, you can reset the switch keyboard and delete all saved text.
- Select "System Settings" in the home menu.
- Now open the sub-item "Console".
- Under "Formatting options" you will find the option "Reset keyboard". After selecting this, the saved text will have disappeared from your digital keyboard.
Reset switch without losing personal settings
If you detect a system error, it often only helps to reset the firmware of the Nintendo Switch. First test whether it is sufficient to reinstall it without deleting personal data. This means that you do not have to set up the switch again and can still solve persistent problems.
- Turn off the Nintendo Switch and pick up the console in handheld mode.
- Now hold down both volume buttons at the same time.
- In addition, press the power button to open the reset menu.
- Now select "Reset console without deleting saved data" and the console will be restarted and reset.
Nintendo Switch Hard Reset: Back to factory settings
The "hard reset" or the "factory reset" can also solve serious problems. This is because the firmware as well as all personal data and settings are deleted. However, this also means that your saves for all switch games, screenshots, the Nintendo account link and other saved data will be lost. Also try the steps outlined above and only perform the hard reset if this does not solve the problems with the console.
- Start the switch and switch to the home menu.
- Open the system settings.
- Now select the "Formatting options" under "Console".
- Finally, decide on "Reset to factory settings".
