Kindle Paperwhite eReader reset: How to reset it
You can reset your Kindle Paperwhite in two different ways. We explain to you how to carry out the respective reset and when which variant makes sense.
Soft reset for Kindle Paperwhite
If your screen freezes frequently or content is not correctly synchronized, a so-called soft reset often helps:
- When you perform a soft reset, no data on the device is deleted and all settings are retained. It is roughly equivalent to restarting the device.
- Hold the On / Off button on your Kinde Paperwhite for 20 - 40 seconds. The device then restarts automatically.
- The boot process takes about two minutes. After that, your device should be usable again without any problems.
Kindle Paperwhite: Reset to factory settings
If you want to sell your Kindle or fix serious malfunctions, you should reset the device to the factory settings.
- A factory reset deletes all data on the Kindle. So if there are books or PDFs on Paperwhite that you did not purchase from Amazon, you should transfer them from Kindle to a PC.
- For the factory reset, tap the vertically arranged dots in the main menu and tap "Settings".
- Press the same point in the settings menu and select "Reset device". Confirm the security question with "Yes". Your Kindle will then reset and delete all data.
We'll also explain what you can do if Windows no longer recognizes your Kindle.
