Eat properly with gout: what you should pay attention to
If you suffer from gout, there are a few things to consider when choosing food. This health tip tells you which diet is healthy for your body and which foods you should avoid.
Eating gout - you should avoid these foods
Gout is a metabolic disorder. If you suffer from gout, you should avoid foods with a high purine content.
- Purines from food are broken down into uric acid in the body. And gout is caused by a high level of uric acid in the blood.
- Meat, sausages and offal in particular are rich in purines and should therefore be avoided in the case of gout.
- Also remove some legumes from your menu. Peas, lentils and white beans are not well tolerated in gout.
- Sardines, anchovies and yeast are also unsuitable foods.
- In principle, you should also reduce the fat intake. Prepare your food either steamed in a steamer or fry food without fat.
Healthy foods for gout
A protein-rich diet is very healthy for the gout metabolic disorder.
- Milk and milk products have a positive effect on your body. The same goes for eggs.
- Salads and fruit are well tolerated. You should also regularly eat potatoes and almost all types of vegetables. Only Brussels sprouts and spinach contain a relatively large amount of purine and should therefore not be consumed.
- Vitamin C lowers the level of uric acid in the blood. Vitamin C is found in numerous foods.
- Black currants, bell peppers and broccoli, for example, contain a particularly large amount of vitamin C. Parsley is also a very good source of vitamin C.
- A good fluid balance is very important for gout. So drink as much water or unsweetened tea as possible. A liquid intake of two to three liters a day is ideal.
